After celebrating the holidays and reflecting on 2018, hopefully, you’re ready for a fresh start in 2019. If you’ve been following along with our New Year’s resolution series, you’ve likely brainstormed a couple business goals for this year.
Staying motivated with New Year’s resolutions can be a challenge. However, with the help of mentors, business peers and close friends, staying on track with goals and hitting milestones can be a lot easier. To conclude our New Year’s resolution series, we’re sharing tips for surrounding yourself with people who can help you stay on track with your goals and make a positive impact in 2019.
Connect with Good for Michigan resources.
To make building a support network easier, we’ve rounded up a number of resources to help you achieve your 2019 goals. Whether it’s your goal to start a company-wide recycling program or to boost employee engagement, we probably have a resource that can help. Visit our Partners/Resources page for a full list of companies that specialize in different areas such as sustainability, supply chain, human resources, B Corp assessments, transportation, technology and more.
Find an accountability partner.
It’s much easier to work toward a goal when you have a cheerleader encouraging you along the way. When you have someone who you can share goals and deadlines with, you are much more likely to stay on track, hold yourself accountable and make progress.
Find someone who will challenge you and motivate you to stay focused on your goals. This accountability partner could be someone on your leadership team, a mentor, fellow business owner or even a close friend. After you find an accountability partner, schedule regular times to meet throughout the year so you can check in on your goals. You can also keep conversations going beyond in-person meetings by touching base with a quick email or text.
Engage with your network.
As you build your support network, it’s important to nurture those relationships. Make time in your schedule each month to meet with someone in your network over coffee or lunch, or even go for a walking meeting. Good for Michigan also offers a number of events throughout the year including Measure What Matters mixers and workshops or Hackathons, which offer an opportunity to meet with other Good for Michigan businesses who may share common goals as you. Also, remember to celebrate your accomplishments at the Good for Michigan Awards each spring.
Remember that all goals take time to accomplish. Surrounding your business with good people who support you along the way can make it easier to stay on track. We hope you learned something new through our New Year’s resolution series and feel inspired to use your business as a force for good in 2019!
